Job Description

An opportunity exists for a PhD-level protein crystallographer to join
the department of Medicinal Chemistry at Rahway, NJ. This position will
support Merck's drug discovery and development effort in collaboration
with computational and medicinal chemists. The successful candidate
will perform crystallization, crystal optimization, and structure
determination of proteins and protein:ligand complexes in a
medium-throughput environment. They will also work closely with our
molecular biologists and protein biochemists and will have access to the
department's cloning, expression, and crystallization technologies.

This position requires significant professional experience in protein
crystallography and related disciplines. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree
is required, and relevant postdoctoral experience is extremely
desirable. The successful candidate will be proficient in all aspects
of macromolecular X-ray crystallography. Relevant experience with
computational techniques and automated structure determination are
preferred. Applicants should be highly motivated, able to work
independently and collaboratively, and comfortable with a goal-oriented,
deadline driven environment. Strong interpersonal and communication
skills as well as a proven record of scientific excellence are expected.
