Bayer Schering Pharma AG Berlin

Job description

As a research scientist/ team leader in Structural Biology (protein
crystallography) you will
provide structural biology support to lead discovery and lead optimization
projects in
cardiovascular and oncology research at our Pharma Research Center in
Wuppertal, after
an introductory phase at the Pharma Research Center in Berlin. You will be
responsible for
"state-of-the-art? crystallisation, data collection and structure
determination of protein-ligand
complexes as well as their interpretation, assessment and documentation,
including in-depth
characterization of binding niches. You will be working in a team of
experienced structural
biologists at the two research centers and be an integral part of the Lead
Discovery
Department at the Pharma Research Center in Wuppertal. You will closely
interact with
colleagues from other areas such as protein technology, computational
chemistry and
medicinal chemistry. The communication and discussion of your results
within multidisciplinary
drug discovery teams will form a central part of your work.

Your qualifications

You have a Ph.D. in structural biology or a related discipline
(biochemistry, chemistry), with
several years of experience in structural biology. Your expertise is in
protein X-ray
crystallography with an emphasis on experimental phasing techniques. A
bioinformatics
background as well as a track record of determining X-ray structures of a
range of different
protein classes would be beneficial. Knowledge in protein purification
and/ or small molecule
crystallography is an advantage. Excellent presentation skills and
managerial and
communication skills are required. A working knowledge of German is also
considered an
advantage.
