CCP4bb navigationCCP4bb <-- 1999 <-- November 1999 <-- 30 November 1999Subject: Postdoctoral Position and PhD Studentship From: Ingrid Dreveny Ingrid {- dot -} Dreveny {- at -} NOTTINGHAM {- dot -} AC {- dot -} UK Date: 2010-05-04 Postdoctoral Position and PhD Studentship investigating a human deubiquitinating enzyme implicated in DNA damage repair and cervical cancer You are invited to apply for the following positions available immediately; a postdoctoral position and a studentship to work in the ubiquitin field. The BBSRC funded project will investigate the structure and mechanism of a human deubiquitinating enzyme that is implicated in DNA damage repair and cervical cancer. The successful candidate will use a combination of structural biology techniques (X-ray crystallography, SAXS/atomic force microscopy) in conjunction with biochemical studies. The project is already well advanced and diffracting crystals are available. We aim to identify interaction surfaces and understand how substrates are recognized and specificity is achieved. These structural insights will reveal fundamental principles of ubiquitin deconjugation and the molecular basis of signalling pathways implicated in disease processes. These data will provide a scaffold for structure based drug design. You will be based in the new interdisciplinary Centre for Biomolecular Sciences equipped with state of the art instrumentation and benefiting from a diverse and stimulating research environment. The post is held within the School of Pharmacy (UoN has the top School of Pharmacy for research; 2008 UK RAE) and Nottingham has a tradition of international acclaim in the area of ubiquitin proteasome research. The postdoctoral position will be based on a fixed term three year contract with a salary of £27,319 - £28,139 per annum. The BBSRC-funded studentship will pay tuition fees for UK and EU students, and a stipend of around £13,500 per year for UK students. We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a strong desire to understand the molecular basis of cellular and disease processes. For the postdoctoral position you should hold a PhD in protein crystallography and have good working experience of molecular biology techniques, protein expression and purification. For the studentship you should hold a degree in biochemistry or related background. To apply please send a CV with the names of two referees to Dr Ingrid Dreveny (ingrid.dreveny@nottingham.ac.uk). The advert and further details will also be made available on www.jobs.ac.uk.
