Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science seeks a 'hands-on'
macromolecular
crystallographer who values being helpful and a 'hard-money' academic
position.

Job Requirements: A self-starter with good computer and people skills
and post-doctoral
experience in macromolecular crystallography, and X-ray hardware
maintenance.
Experience with MAD/SIRAS and MR structure determination, protein
purification and
crystallization, or extensive computer skills is a plus. Experience with
membrane protein
purification/crystallization is an additional plus.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: This is a service position. The X-ray
Laboratory
Manager must be able to act independently within the framework of the
goals and priorities
of the Rosalind Franklin Structural Biology Laboratory X-ray Diffraction
Facility. Duties
include maintaining a user friendly data collection environment:

  • Maintaining and operating a Rigaku RU-H X-ray generator, Bruker CCD
and Rigaku R-axis IV++ X-ray detectors, Oxford and XSTREAM cryogenic
systems, and a TTP LabTech Mosquito crystallization robot.
  • Interfacing with vendors and service technicians during periods of
instrumentation failure; attending and facilitating data collection
during regularly scheduled University supported trips to the APS.
  • Maintaining a user friendly operating computing environment.
  • Installing and incorporating new computing hardware and peripherals
    into the computing environment.
  • Seeking out projects within the biochemistry department and
throughout the university that are amenable to crystallographic analysis.
  • Assisting users and potential users in all phases of structure
determination and analysis in either a service or teaching capacity,
including: protein crystallization, data collection, and structural
    analysis.
  • Acting in an advisory role in the purchase of new crystallographic
instrumentation, and new computing hardware and software as
    opportunities present themselves.

Job training courses and/or attendance in scientific meetings in X-ray
methods, X-ray maintenance, computer system administration, or protein
crystallization/robotics will be made available to keep the X-ray
Laboratory Managers skills up to date.

Interested applicants should send CV and the Names/Contact Information
of three references to david.harrison@rosalindfranklin.edu. Competitive
compensation package commensurate with qualifications is provided.
Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science is an Equal
Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
