Thorsten Allers (Nottingham) has been developing genetic tools to work
with Haloferax volcanii including selectable markers etc, but as far as
I'm aware there is no heterologous expression system.

On the whole, culture conditions for archaea are difficult (e.g. being
able to streak on plates is usually a problem). Have a look at
