Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research

Postdoctoral Position in Macromolecular Crystallography

A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Dr. Nicolas Thomä at
the Friedrich Miescher Institute (FMI) in Basel, Switzerland. The group was
established recently at the FMI to study macromolecular machines involved in
genome maintenance (www.fmi.ch/thoma.n). The postdoctoral projects focus on
the molecular mechanism of replication fork stabilization and DNA repair and
are done in collaboration with the group of Prof. Susan Gasser (please see:
Genes & Development 19:3055-69, 2005; Cell 125:1233-5, 2006; Nature
441:774-8, 2006). Previous experience in crystallography is essential.

The FMI is an independent biomedical research centre with 300 members
pursuing fundamental research in areas of Neurobiology, Cell Growth and
Signaling, and Epigenetics. Core funding for the FMI comes from the
Novartis Research Foundation supplemented by grants from national and
international agencies. A competitive salary and access to state-of-the-art
research facilities will be provided. The FMI was recently voted the best
institute for postdoc work in Europe and is situated in Basel, a city
offering an outstanding scientific and cultural environment.

Please send your application, including a CV, a summary of your research
experience and interests and the names and contact details of three referees
to n.thomae@fmi.ch or by post to Dr. Nicolas Thomä, Friedrich Miescher
Institute, Maulbeerstrasse 66, 4058 Basel, Switzerland.
