Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron: PETRA III

DESY is one of the leading accelerator centres worldwide engaged in
exploring the structure of matter. The main research areas range from
elementary particle physics and various synchrotron radiation
applications to the construction and use of X-ray lasers. DESY looks
back on a long tradition in synchrotron radiation experiments in a
wide range of applications and is currently developing into one of the
leading centres in this field worldwide. At present about 40 beamlines
are operated at the storage ring DORIS III and the VUV-Free Electron
Laser. For one of our future projects, the conversion of the PETRA
storage ring into one of the most brilliant hard X-ray sources from
2007 on, we are seeking a

beamline scientists (Ph.D.)

for an undulator beamlines with an experimental station dedicated to

Macromolecular Crystallography and biological imaging

jointly operated and build by the Max-Planck-Society and the
Helmholtz-Association. You will work in a team-oriented environment
establishing and cultivating close contacts to the user
community. Further, you will take a leading role in the design,
construction and operation of the beamlines. We expect you to hold a
Ph.D. in physics, chemistry or a comparable qualification. Long
standing experience in design, operation and development of
synchrotron radiation instrumentation is a prerequisite. Experience at
a 3rd generation synchrotron radiation source is highly desirable. A
convincing research record is expected.

The successful candidate will be offered a tenure-track
position. Applications including CV, certificates, list of
publications, and description of research interests and skills should
be sent to the personnel department quoting the reference code below.

For further information, please contact:
Hermann Franz at +49 40/8998-4534, hermann.franz@desy.de or
Edgar Weckert at +49 40/8998-4509, edgar.weckert@desy.de.

Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service
organisations in Germany. DESY is an equal opportunity, affirmative
action employer and encourages applications from women. DESY has a
kindergarten on site.
