I'm posting this message from a friend in the ELIXIR team.

I second their bid to build and maintain a distributed European
infrastructure for biological information, which should ensure that the
current free and unrestricted access to the core biological data resources
keeps so.

Though this is slightly off-topic for this bulletin board, I think their
initiative is of the utmost importance for our work.
